Cleaning
and preserving your hammock or Rocker: Cleaning
the Arc: Your arc is made from Northern Carolina Cypress. This beautiful and strong
wood contains natural oils which is why it is so resilient to weather. Over time
left outside, the sun and weather will give it a beautiful, natural, pewter grayish
color. If your desire is to keep the original look of the Arc it is best to give
it a light sanding with 150 grit sandpaper and then apply 1-2 coats of boiled
linseed oil. Varnishing is generally not recommended due to the natural oils in
the Cypress wood. Polyester Rope:
Many people find that a mild solution of Oxyclean® works the best. Ideally you should not
submerge the wooden cross section into the cleaning solution. The Polyester rope
can be carefully removed. Care should be taken by running a piece of rope or line
through the loops “before they are removed from the cross bar”. You do not want
the loops to untwist or get out of sequence. Your cross bar can also be refreshed
by giving it a light sanding and applying 1-2 coats of boiled linseed oil. Rope
Rocker: All wood parts on the rocker can be lightly sanded and coated with a good
grade of marine varnish. Special care should be used when lightly sanding and
applying varnish close to the rope areas not to apply varnish onto the rope itself.
Many people find that using the blue removable Scotch® painters tape helps in assuring quality
results. |
